It's Monday so that means a new color challenge for Shades of Inspiration. This week is...

BLUE

Blue is a tricky color for me as I love it as an accent but have trouble with certain shades of it as a decorating color. Of course what can one say bad about blue in the garden or blue skies or a sparkling blue lake? Nothing!

Here are some blues I photographed in April in Giverny, France.

I decided to add some random fun white from my photo files for today's Shades of Inspiration. No theme except that all the photos make me smile.

Over on Beach Treasure today you can follow me around the Saturday morning Farmer's Market.

Today I did an entire post on La Madeleine (Madeleine Church in Paris) over on Beach Treasure. All the photos were also perfect for this week's color theme of white/cream theme for the Shades of Inspiration Challenge. So, I'm gonna save myself a little time but make you work a little bit today. Click on over to Beach Treasure to see the rest of the beautiful photographs.

To pique your interest, here is one of my favorites.

Garden whites

Look! My turtle seed sprouted!

Poor kitty must have used up all nine lives.

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's......

Plant stakes - a gift from my mom. I haven't gotten them in the ground yet.

Shades of Inspiration again today. I just realized I only have a few days left before visitors arrive, so I gotta get off this machine and get to crackin' the whip on that damn housecleaning fairy. She's really gotten lazy of late. If she doesn't get her rear in gear pretty soon I might have no choice but to do the work myself. Sheesh.

A trio of readers

keys to my.... uhm.... cottage in the French countryside. Yes. That's it.

The ocean sings to me, even when it's far away.

A poem made out of refrigerator magnets my husband created for me to discover.

I was going to take some photos of my most recent craft store and thrift shop treasures, but then I got distracted. A friend who I haven't seen since mid March called and said "Let's do lunch!" and y'know, a girl has to have her priorities. So, maybe I'll get those treasures photographed tomorrow. However, I was inspired to wander around the house and yard yesterday, camera in hand, in search of shades of white for Shades of Inspiration.

A boneyard...er, I mean a yard bone. That is, a bone in the yard.

And speaking of Beach Treasure, if you'd like a brighter view of the world, today I've posted some more color drenched photos there.

Today starts a new color for Shades of Inspiration - white/cream. I looked through my photos last night in anticipation and discovered that most of the images that would work for this week were on the .... odd, macabre, creepy, weird side. Hmmmm. What does that say about me? Probably nothing that people who know me well don't already know - that I have an odd, macabre, creepy, weird side. But for some of you, who may not know me so well, let's not frighten you away just yet. We'll work up to those later in the week and start out with some pretty and innocuous flower photos.

Oops, I missed a day, then another day, then another... been busy and out of town and dealing with a sinus infection and smoke from a fire and ....

but, I'll slip in here with one more Shades of Inspiration green before the week is over.

The sun setting through the backyard grape arbor.

More grapes on the fence.

Today is the last day to go to the Flickr group and see all the green photos. They'll be erased tonight. I'm not sure why we have to take the different colors done each week, but that's the hostess Sadie's decision. Monday will start a new color - creams and whites. I'm excited about this noncolor week, I bet there is going to be some wonderful images.

I've also got to post about some other things going on around here - craft and fabric runs to the big city and ... well, I'll save it for the next post.

For now, I'll leave you with a song. All week because of this green theme I've had this old song stuck in my head. I was a huge John Denver fan in the days. I hope today finds you in a Cool and Green and Shady mood.

Another Green day - ah, man, now I'm gonna have to go put on one of their CD's.

We like turtles in this family, so I couldn't resist snapping this shot while strolling near a famous public market. I won't tell you the name of the city but I'll give you a clue.....

Can you guess the city now?

Today's Shades of Inspiration - Green. Boy, this Challenge sure helps me find a topic for this blog each day. Seeing as I'm still not finding any studio time. If things keep going on without a change, eventually my studio will look like this first photo -

A ruined room inside the ancient (obviously) city wall in Conwy, Wales.

And a bit west, a colorful street in Caernarfon, Wales. We kept hearing periodic shouting, simultaneously, but from all over the town. We figured out that it was the final playoff for the English Cup and the cheers were coming from pubs on every street. Nearby Liverpool won that year.

Shades Of Inspiration

Sadie's I Saw Red Challenge was so much fun that she's turned it into an ongoing color challenge called Shades of Inspiration. You can read about the challenge on Sadie's blog here. And you can join the Challenge on this Flickr group.

The new color is GREEN. Here's my first photo.

Last day to participate in I Saw Red. A few more -

Red on red - Is this what they mean by a burning bush?

This fellow literally sees red.

I really like the contrast between the every day dishes in the sink and the soft beauty of a special rose.

I Saw Red at Faerieworlds 2007.

In fact, I saw lots of colors there. Faeries love color. I can hardly wait to visit the faeries, red, blue, brown, green, or purple, at Faerieworlds 2008 again this year.

Driving to Reno yesterday through the high desert, we passed the local shoe tree. I always watch for it as one of the few distance markers on the long ninety mile trip but this time, of course, what popped out.... I SAW RED!

So we stopped on the way back home to snap a few photos. Not the best photos as I only had my old camera in my purse. But the red really does stand against the muted dusty colors of the high desert, even when you're winging by at 65 mph. (the bright blue skies aren't too shabby either.)

While I snapped a few photos, hubby made himself useful picking up all the fallen frui...er, shoes and tying them back in the lower branches.

More picturesque photos to be seen today over on Beach Treasure. If your in the mood for green and peaceful, go see.

If you scroll back to the last couple I Saw Red posts, you'll see an interesting pattern has set itself up. The childhood poem came to mind:

I see London,
I see France,
I see someone's underpants!

I've already posted the France and underpants. Here's the London to finish things up:

I saw these lanterns in a London window (not far from Euston Station, that's as much as I can remember) a couple of years ago. I wonder if they're made of paper, cloth, paint...?

A drizzly day, just down from the Tower of London (you can see one of the towers on Tower Bridge in the left background). It's one of my favorite photos of William and I've posted it here or on Beach Treasure previously, but it's worth sharing again. It's perfect for I Saw Red, don't you think? Shortly after this photo was taken, the umbrella sailed (with a little help from my son) over a fence and into a private garden. Oops.

Here's my I Saw Red photo for the day, also taken in Paris. I would so adore a sofa like that - in a room where my cats were not allowed to enter, of course. I also liked the name of the shop - a subtle hint that if I could afford to buy that sofa then perhaps I have an obligation to buy it so that less well-to-do persons could rest their weary bums upon it?

And speaking of bums, I thought I'd add a second I Saw Red photo to catch half way up from the first two days I missed. I saw this lovely (and rather LARGE) pair of knickers flying above a boardwalk in Virginia City, Nevada last summer.

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

I posted this same post on Beach Treasure today and then realized I should have signed up here. Brain needs oiling, apparently. So, I'm duplicating this first post and I'll be adding more photos for this photo project here throughout the week.

I stumbled upon a group of bloggers who are doing this I Saw Red photo sharing this week. With my ongoing brain freeze about uploading buttons, the best I can do is share the button image here and give you the link for the participants here. I've only seen a few of the images here and there so far but I'll have to find the time to go check out all the participating blogs because I adore red in photos. Really, don't we all!? And I had to play because I knew the perfect photo to share for it, one of my favorite moments captured in Paris. This was taken while sitting on the edge of the Seine just below the Eiffel Tower, watching the boats, people, clouds go by.

I'm in non-purchasing mode nowadays - in everything from clothing to craft supplies. Well, more specifically, no purchasing anything new. And what I do buy, new or used, only sparingly.

But, there are some opportunities one shouldn't pass by. I was driving home from an errand yesterday, through the industrial area on the outskirts of town where I don't often go. Driving by the recycling center, the building supply company, the feed store, I spied a bunch of signs with arrows that all said "Barn Garage Sale". Barn garage sale? So, are they selling barns? Or having a garage sale in a barn? Or selling barn supplies? I had to find out.

It turned out to be an enormous warehouse sized barn the local antique and collectible dealer uses for storage. He generally gets his merchandise from buying up abandoned storage units and sifting through them for the treasures he puts in the shop. This was where he had left everything else.

It took me over an hour and a half to do just a cursory up and down every aisle. I spent $7. I was pleased because, a) I only bought a little bit, meaning I didn't bring home much of anything I had to find room for and, b) I did find some goodies, most of them crafty finds.

Here's what I found. Unlike recent photos, this one you can click on to enlarge so you can see stuff. Clockwise from bottom left: A tiny dish for my tea bags, fifteen art stamps, a dragonfly for Joli's fairy room, a bag of small birds and nests, a bee (missing one wing, but I can make him new wings), a tiny ceramic tile still attached to whatever it used to be part of - it's painted pictures of herbs with a saying from Poor Richard's Almanac - "Much virtue in herbs, little in men.", some black elastic string, a bag of embroidery thread (and a few misc. ribbon flowers and heart cutouts), some leather and beads I thought could be reworked to accessorize my forest fairy costume, two sets of knitting needles (sizes 1 and 2, almost invisible in the photo), and (in the middle), a rolling line marker.

And here's my favorite find. An entire five pound can full of plastic letters and numbers. They have little tabs on the back so they can be used on one of those old fashioned display boards one sees at deli counters or such. I'd love to find an actual board and use it to write poetry, quotes, affirmations, or messages. But if not, the tabs will be easy to clip off with a scissors and the letters can be glued onto other projects. If, that is, they just don't end up being a can of letters and numbers for the family to play with just as they are. William already asked if he could have them. And I assume the grandkids (those old enough not to eat them) would love to play with them too.

My house and garden are screaming for me to notice them, clean them, organize them. Can you hear them?

(AAAAAAAAAHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........HELp us.......)

That is, those sections that haven't given up and are laying about virtually comatose. Yet, cruel woman that I am, I'm going to turn a deaf ear to it all today and do some crafting instead. Rather, I'm going to try to hack my way into the jungle, aka the studio, in an attempt to make the guest bed accessible (which means I have to find it first - I vaguely recall it being in the corner directly across from the hall door) and hopefully (fingers crossed, knock on wood), start back up on some projects or at the very least find them as well.

Wish me luck. If you don't hear back from me in a day or two, send a search party.
